Overview
We’re looking for a detail-obsessed, systems-minded freelancer to manage and reconcile metadata across our master and publishing catalogs. This role sits at the intersection of data integrity, rights management, and royalty optimization.
You’ll be responsible for aggregating, standardizing, and maintaining accurate metadata across multiple sources, and ensuring consistency across collection societies and neighboring rights organizations.
Core Responsibilities
Metadata Aggregation & ReconciliationIngest and reconcile data from multiple sources (label copy, distributor exports, PRO data, publishing splits, etc.)
• Identify and resolve inconsistencies across ISRC, ISWC, writer/publisher splits, performer credits, and ownership data
• Maintain a clean, canonical “single source of truth” database
Database ManagementBuild and maintain structured datasets for:
• Master recordings
• Compositions
• Writer/publisher splits
• Performer and rights-holder metadata
• Normalize naming conventions and enforce metadata standards
Rights Organization AlignmentEnsure accurate and consistent data delivery to:
• PPL (UK neighboring rights)
• SoundExchange (US neighboring rights)
• PROs (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, PRS, etc.)
• Flag and correct mismatches that could impact royalty collection
Quality Control & AuditingRun periodic audits to identify missing or conflicting data
• Cross-check registrations vs. internal records
• Track discrepancies that could lead to lost revenue
Workflow OptimizationHelp design efficient ingestion + validation workflows
• Recommend tools or automation where appropriate (Excel, Airtable, SQL, etc.)
Required Experience
• Direct experience with music metadata, rights management, or royalty administration
• Strong understanding of:
• ISRC / ISWC systems
• Publishing splits and writer share vs. publisher share
• Neighboring rights vs. performance royalties
• Familiarity with:
• SoundExchange, PPL, and at least one major PRO
• Advanced proficiency in:
• Excel / Google Sheets (pivot tables, lookups, data cleaning)
• Data reconciliation across large datasets
Preferred
• Experience working with:
• Labels, publishers, distributors, or royalty collection firms
• Familiarity with:
• DDEX standards
• Catalog migration or ingestion projects
• Light technical capability (SQL, Airtable, or scripting) is a plus

• A clean, deduplicated, and standardized metadata system
• Alignment across all collection societies
• Reduced leakage / missed royalties due to metadata errors
• Scalable processes for future catalog growth
