Big Hassle Media is looking for a motivated PUBLICITY ASSISTANT to assist a senior publicist in our New York City office. This is a hybrid, entry-level role that requires attention to detail, a passion for music, and a genuine enthusiasm for launching a career in the music industry.
Founded in 1999, Big Hassle Media is the brainchild of seasoned label publicists Ken Weinstein (Astralwerks, Atlantic Records, Mercury Records) and Jim Merlis (Columbia Records, Geffen Records). We are a bi-coastal publicity firm of 14 employees, located in Los Angeles, New York City, Seattle, Nashville and Kansas City, devoted to crafting media campaigns that allow our clients (ranging from A-List to emerging) to cut through the noise and rise to the top of entertainment media. A core belief of our tight-knit agency is developing authentic, strong and personal relationships with the press as well as with our clients to ensure we meet every objective we set out to achieve. Big Hassle represents Jack White, Phish, The Lumineers, Kesha, Alt-J, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, and more.
Publicity Assistant responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Assisting with album, single, and tour press campaigns
• Arranging artist interviews and engagements
• Promoting and elevating nonprofits through media placements
• Building brand identities with clients (artists and nonprofits)
• Maintaining relationships in the music industry, music media, and beyond
• Drafting press releases and pitches
• Compiling media lists and press reports
• Performing research and client outreach
• Attending client / journalist meetings
• Engaging after hours at special events / concerts with press, executives and artists
Candidates should:
• Be passionate and knowledgeable about music
• Be creative, and actively contribute new, interesting ideas for promotions, campaigns, and ways to push forward
• Have a strong overall knowledge of the music industry and music media
• Have excellent communication (written and oral) and organization skills
• Consume and know industry blogs, outlets, podcasts, etc
• Be a motivated self-starter
• Have excellent attention to detail
• Be meticulous and tenacious about delivering the right results
• Be familiar with Zoom, Google Meet, Google Calendar, and Google Drive
• Knowledge of Constant Contact and Muck Rack is a plus
• Be tech-savvy and generally resourceful
• Be equal parts a gregarious, charismatic sharer of ideas, as well as an engaged and thoughtful listener in meetings and at social events
• Have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study
