Girls Behind the Rock Show is seeking an experienced Head of Web Design with strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, Readymag, and Squarespace to lead and evolve our digital presence. This role is responsible for setting the visual and structural direction of GBTRS’ website and web-based initiatives, ensuring our online platforms clearly communicate our mission, values, and commitment to diversity and inclusion in the music industry.
Key Responsibilities
Web Design & Development
Lead the design, structure, and ongoing optimization of the GBTRS website and web pages.
Design and implement responsive, visually compelling web layouts using HTML, CSS, Readymag, and Squarespace.
Ensure consistent application of GBTRS brand guidelines across all web experiences.
Maintain high standards for accessibility, including color contrast, typography, and usability best practices.
Oversee updates, page builds, and design improvements to support campaigns, events, and organizational initiatives.
Creative Direction & Leadership
Establish and maintain web design standards and best practices for GBTRS.
Provide creative direction and feedback to designers or collaborators contributing to web projects.
Ensure all web design work aligns with GBTRS’ mission, values, and visual identity.
Collaboration
Work closely with the Social Media, Community, and Marketing teams to translate goals into effective web solutions.
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure web content supports storytelling, engagement, and conversion goals.
Communicate design decisions clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical team members.
Project & Time Management
Manage web design timelines and priorities, ensuring projects are completed on schedule.
Proactively communicate progress, delays, or challenges to relevant team leads.
Balance multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
Adaptability & Growth
Stay informed on web design trends, accessibility standards, and industry best practices.
Continuously refine and improve GBTRS’ digital presence based on user needs and organizational goals.
Qualifications
Proven experience in web design or a strong portfolio demonstrating web-based projects.
Proficiency in HTML and CSS, with hands-on experience using Readymag and Squarespace.
Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility, UX principles, and web typography.
Experience designing for or working with non-profit organizations is a plus.
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
